Vertical gray bars, horizontal red lines on Early MacBook Pro 2.2 i7

SO I have not had any issues with my MacBook Pro early 2011 since I bought it other than needing a replacement HDD. Currently I have a SSD, which was upgrade a week ago from 250 to 500. I then updated to El Capitan and everything seemed to be going well. Then last night we were streaming a movie and after we finished it started to browse the Internet and it froze to a black screen with dark gray vertical lines. Then when I tried to boot up again it was fine red horizontal lines that were dotted. It would not boot into the OS. I went to restore and it the screen appeared normal and then all the sudden 5-6 large grey lines appeared through the screen and I struggled to navig disk utility. I then switched back to my old ssd and did restore and same thing, loaded normal then changed to grey bars. I’m able to get it to start restoring but the bars are still present. Does anyone have any idea at this point what it could possibly be? Am I wasting my time restoring? makes me worry it is a motherboard or graphic card failure. I did try restarting holding D but that failed to do anything. Anyway, hoping for any suggestions on what to do next. Thanks, Cam
