I just bought a used 30″ Apple Cinema Display (to replace my 23″ one) – and man, is this thing gorgeous. So imagine my disappointment when I discovered a bad column of pixels. It’s only noticeable when that area of the screen is almost completely jet black, and then the vertical stripe is dark blue instead of black.
I’m wondering how to determine if the problem is in the display or in the graphics card (GeForce GT120). I didn’t notice the problem with the 23″ display, but I don’t think that necessarily implicates the display, because the stripe is far to the right side of the screen, so probably using memory that wasn’t used when driving the lower-resolution 23″ display (1920 versus 2560 pixels wide).
